Travel insurance has been a bone of contention for me for many years. I had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia as a child and Papillary Thyroid Cancer just two years ago. This is amongst many other illnesses I’ve experienced over the years, some serious. For a while I considered myself uninsurable or that I wouldn’t be able to afford travel insurance, if I could find it.
Off the shelf travel insurance, often doesn’t cover people who have been hospitalised within a specific number of preceeding years or people who have had the big C at any point in their lives. If you just buy off-the-shelf travel insurance and assume you’re covered, you couldn’t be more wrong and it could be the worst possible moment, when you discover that you bought travel insurance which is null and void. I was shocked recently, by someone who told me they “don’t declare” past illnesses when buying travel insurance – their insurance is more than likely not valid at all!
For the past few years, I’ve travelled without insurance. I knew that if I had an accident abroad, I would not be able to afford treatment and I also knew that if I died abroad, my family would not be able to afford to ship my body home. It was not a nice thought, but I just couldn’t find an insurer who would cover me for less than a few hundred (or thousand) pounds.
Until now.
I came across AllClear Travel who specialise in providing insurance for people who have pre-existing medical conditions or who have complicated medical histories, like me. They even cover people who’ve had more than one cancer… like me.
I got in touch with them and got a quote done. I did one quote online, but as I needed my policy in a hurry, I ended up taking out my policy over the phone instead. The website was clear and easy to use and it didn’t take long to get a quote. The people on the end of the phone were compassionate and helpful too. All round the service was excellent and they explain anything you don’t understand.
Now considering I have a complicated medical history and have already beaten two cancer’s at the age of 29 I was really shocked by my quote…
ONE YEAR’s travel insurance, for use anywhere in Europe, against multiple trips for myself AND my husband and three children (one of whom has recently been hospitalised and is still being treated for a condition) came out at… £211.
Yep… that’s it. Just £211. I can travel as much as I want in Europe with my family for a whole year, for that price. I was amazed. Not only that, but the excesses aren’t high and it covers all the other stuff too – like holiday cancellation, lost luggage, personal possessions etc. It covers illness, accidents and even death (though I pray I never have to claim).
If I had just wanted single trip cover in Europe, it would only have been £69. Not even triple figures.
Having just got back from a glorious week in Menorca, I can’t begin to tell you how much more relaxing our holiday was, knowing that I was 100% covered by my travel insurance. Travel insurance where I’d been completely honest about my medical history and it had all been factored into my quote.
They say you can’t put a price on peace of mind… but AllClear Travel did and it was an incredibly low price for an excellent level of travel insurance cover.
I would highly recommend AllClear Travel to anyone who has ever had any kind of illness, currently or in the past.
So only one question remains… Where to travel next?
No-one (Insurance wise) wants to know me as I currently have and have had cancer for 4 years. It will not go away but I am active every day and my consultants are happy my medication is keeping it stable. They tell me to go and enjoy a holiday.
Could I ever afford Insurance?
Give these guys a try, I bet they will insure you.
