Driving Ranges and Golf courses in Gloucestershire
Brickhampton Court Golf Complex
Set amongst 200 acres of land in Churchdown, and boasting “no steep hills”, Brickhampton Court Golf Complex offers two golf courses, driving range, simulator, foot golf, lessons and children’s parties. A variety of adult and child memberships are available and the club is open to non-members too. The clubhouse “Nineteen at Brickhampton” serves a variety of food and beverages to golfers and non-golfers alike.
Painswick Golf Club
With views over the Severn Valley, Cotswold Slad Valley, Brecon Beacon and the Malvern Hills, Painswick’s 18 hole golf course boasts some impressive views. The bar offers hot and cold drinks, alcohol and bar snacks, as well as free WIFI. Golf shop on site and memberships are available. Dress codes apply.
Gloucester Golf Club
A 13 bay driving range and a challenging 18 hole golf course with steep slopes. Visitors are welcome and memberships are available. The clubhouse shows off panoramic views of the course as well as a patio area and is open to the public as well golfers. In addition to a full food and drink offering, the clubhouse also shows Sky sports in 3D. Dress codes are in place.
Shipton Golf Course
In Andoversford, the 9 holes of Shipton Golf Course is a pay & play course, meaning that booking is not necessary. Non-members are welcome and both lessons and memberships are available. Pro shop, coffee bar and outside terrace are on site.
Sherdons Golf Centre
Situated in Tredington, near Tewkesbury, Sherdons Golf Centre is a 9 hole pay & play golf course open to the public, with a floodlit driving range. Memberships are available. Also on site is a pro shop, and fully licensed clubhouse serving hot and cold food and drinks all day.
Cotswold Edge Golf Club
Cotswold Edge Golf Club promotes spectacular picturesque views across it’s 18 hole course in Wotton-Under-Edge. Members and non members are welcomed. Dress codes apply and memberships are available. The club features a golf shop, function rooms and golf club bar serving drinks, breakfast, lunch and snacks.
Cotswold Hills Golf Club
This private members club encourages you to join one of their membership packages, but is also open to visitors (prior phone call recommended due to fixed start times). Choose from 9, 18 or 36 holes, as the 18 holes are comprised of two 9 hole loops. Strict dress code applies to both the course and the clubhouse, which serves food and drink from it’s bar menu, all day.
Cleeve Hill Golf Club
Sitting atop the highest point in the Cotswolds, Cleeve Hill Golf Club has beautiful views of Cheltenham, Bishops Cleeve, Winchcombe, The Malvern Hills, The Forest of Dean, The Black Mountains and Severn Crossings. The course’s 18 holes offer a challenging game due to frequent strong winds and welcomes both visitors and members. Taster sessions, beginner sessions and tuition are available. The club restaurant offers a full food and drink menu and there is a golf shop on site.
Naunton Downs Golf Club
An 18 hole golf course set in the Naunton Downs, which welcomes non-members subject to availability (it’s advised to telephone first). Memberships are available and societies are welcome. Food and drink is available in the clubhouse. Dress codes, etiquettes and standards apply on and off course. Pictures of all 18 holes are available on their website.
Star Golf
Based in Ullenwood (and sometimes referred to as Ullenwood Manor Golf Course), Star Golf, run by the National Star College offers 18 holes over gentle gradients suited to beginners and casual golfers. Memberships and Pay as you play for non-members are both available and relies on an honesty box for payments..
Cirencester Golf Club
Just 2 miles from the centre of Cirencester, the golf club has an “open door policy” meaning tee times cannot be booked in advance and anyone can show up to play. Memberships and coaching programmes are available and the club is open all year round. The club house has a casual atmosphere and offers hot and cold drinks, snacks and sit down meals. There’s a golf shop on site too.
Minchinhampton Golf Club
Minchinhampton is the host venue for The Open regional qualifying series 2018-2022 and has not just one or two but THREE 18 hole courses and two clubhouses. You can also have the opportunity to sponsor a hole. Visitors and members are welcome but tee bookings should be made two weeks in advance. Hot, cold and alcoholic drinks are available, as well as snacks and a full food menu using locally sourced ingredients. A strict dress code applies.
Stinchcombe Golf Club
High up in the hills above Dursley, you’ll find Stinchcombe Golf Club welcoming members and non-members to play it’s 18 holes. Henry Longhurst apparently described it as “one of the most scenic courses in Europe” as the escarpments gives way to immense views. The club is open all year round and is relatively flat. A full bar menu of food and drink is available in the club house.
Broadway Golf Club
This is a challenging 18 hole course with testing hazards, frequent strong winds and an inland links feel. Memberships are available but the club is open to visitors too (but call ahead to check they aren’t too busy). Broadway has a busy and thriving social club with regular events (quiz nights, dances, themed evenings, Sunday carvery’s) and serves hot and cold drinks, snacks and a full lunch menu, with the option to pre-arrange breakfasts and dinners.
Forest Hills Golf Club
Set in the Forest of Dean, this club has panoramic views of Coleford and the Herefordshire Hills. In addition to an 18 hole golf course, there’s a driving range, foot golf, lessons and junior golf on offer. The club house boasts three function rooms (available for hire), a restaurant and a Coffee Republic lounge. Cakes, snacks, meals and drinks are available all day and the Carvery is popular every Sunday. There’s also a golf pro shop and memberships are available. Family Golf Hour (every Saturday during the summer) encourages families of all ages and abilities to try golf with 6, 9, 12 and 18 hole options.
Lydney Golf Club
This is a private members-only golf club but membership prices are very competitive. Lydney Golf Club has a 9 hole course which is said to be “deceptively testing”. The clubhouse also offers free WIFI and a fully stocked bar.
Westonbirt Golf Course
With membership and pay as you play options for visitors, Westonbirt’s 9 hole golf course is welcoming to all. The price to play is just £10 all day every day to play and the course is described as “picturesque and challenging”. Members take pride in their well established junior section and offer instruction too.
South Cerney Golf Club
At South Cerney Golf club you will find both indoor and outdoor driving ranges, a challenging golf course for all levels and tuition is available. There’s also a pro-shop, a bar with local ales and a café serving freshly made food and barista coffee. Memberships are available and both members and visitors are welcome. It’s worth noting that you can sometimes get cheaper rates if you book online.

Rodway Hill Golf Club
This 18 hole golf course and driving range in Highnam also offers ECO Pod hotel rooms and an RSPB wood around the edges of the course. There is a large clubhouse for use by golfers and hotel guests.
Tewkesbury Park Hotel
Tewkesbury Park Hotel is a luxury hotel with spa, swimming pool, conference facilities and an 18 hole golf course. There is a 6 hole beginners course and tuition is available. The golf course boasts mature trees, water features, excellent greens and fine views over the Cotswolds, Malvern Hills and Tewkesbury Abbey. Golf course is open to visitors, hotel guests and members.
Lilley Brook Golf Club
Lilley Brook Golf Club promises a warm welcome to all visitors, whether members or not to play it’s 18 holes (the final six on higher slopes) and enjoy views across the Cotswolds. This club has a smart casual dress code, free WIFI, pro shop, free parking, clubhouse and functions rooms serving food and drink, and a range of membership options, including for beginners. There is also a Doubletree by Hilton hotel very close to the golf club.
Newent Golf Club
Newent Golf Club is a family run club with no bookable tee times, so you can just show up. With 9 and 18 hole options, this challenging course features 23 bunkers, water, and mature trees. Prices are low and there are no memberships. There is no clubhouse or shop but there is accommodation available in the form of 10 lodges situated around a courtyard. There’s a discount on golf for people staying in the lodges as well as free WIFI, free parking and a complimentary breakfast box. No children under 4years permitted.
Thornbury Golf Centre
A 25 bay floodlit driving range and two 18 hole golf courses (one high and one low), a pro shop and two function rooms are just the tip of the iceberg and Thornbury Golf Centre. They also have an 11 bedroom lodge for those looking for somewhere to stay. Golf lessons are also available. Thornbury is family friendly and its café Bar and Grill has a full menu, including a children’s menu. Membership is based around the BGL Player Card and the course is open to the public, with tee times pre-bookable online.
Bells Hotel and Country Club
Bells Hotel and Country Club consists of a challenging 18 hole golf course with bunkers, streams, lakes and woodland and a golf shop, where tuition is available. Members, non-members and societies are all welcome. The hotel accommodation gives you the choice of one of the hotel’s 53 bedrooms or alternatively you could hire one of their holiday cottages. In addition to golf, you can play on the country club’s county standard bowling green or indulge in some forest activities. The club house bar and restaurant offers a range of drinks and bar snacks throughout the day and the function rooms hosts regular events. There’s also a beauty suite on site.
Crazy golf courses in Gloucestershire
If you’re not keen to lug a full set of Mizuno golf equipment around and your swing isn’t perfect, how about a game of crazy golf? Crazy golf is usually suitable for children and provides a great deal of family fun. Here are some of the crazy golf courses in Gloucestershire that we have come across.
Mr Mulligan’s Lost World Golf
Mr Mulligans, in the Brewery complex in Cheltenham, is an indoor crazy golf venue, so it’s good to visit in any weather. Open to all ages during the day but there is a cut-off time for children in the evening. There are two themed 18 hole courses, with sections which are blacklit for illumination and an extra sense of fun. There is a large bar area serving hot, cold and alcoholic drinks as well as a full food menu. Pre-booking online gets you a discount.
Krazy Golf Lydney
A day pass to Krazy Golf Lydney entitles you to use a number of facilities, including badminton, table tennis, garden games, air hockey and pool in addition to using the crazy golf course. The course has 15 holes, each sponsored by and themed to represent a local attraction in the Forest of Dean or the Wye Valley. You can even take home a certificate if you wish. Picnics are allowed and there is also a retro diner on site too.
Forest of Dean Adventure Golf
Also known as “Pirate Island”, the Forest of Dean Adventure Golf course is entirely pirate themed and has 12 holes with numerous obstacles. There’s also a café and viewing platform and the whole course is said to be fully accessible.
Cotswold Country Park and Beach
This crazy golf course is within the Cotswold Country Park and Beach resort, so beach entry fees need to be paid on top or crazy golf fees. As well as the crazy golf course, the resort boast two large lakes, a number of walking routes, a man-made beach, open swimming, boating, BBQ areas and children’s play parks.
Wye Valley Miniature Golf
Wye Valley Miniature Golf is a 12 hole course with a roman ruin fantasy theme, situated at Symonds Yat in the Wye Valley. The course is fully accessible and they have ball aids and short putters to allow toddlers to play too. There are special offers available online and also to customers who are also visiting the aMazing Hedge Puzzle or Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo. Parking, toilets, tea room and picnic areas are all available on site.
